According to a central government survey, the number of girl students in the schools from pre-primary to 12th standard in West Bengal is more than that of boys. The study released by the Unified District Information System for Education Plus states that the dropout rate among girls in the state is also lower than that of boys.
2.32 lakh more girls enrolled in schools in 2019-20
According to the study, more than 1.87 crore students from pre-primary to class 12 were enrolled in schools in West Bengal in the academic session 2019-20 and out of which 2.32 lakh more girls got enrolled in schools. According to the survey released on Tuesday, the number of girls in the academic session in the schools of the state was 94,89,902 and the number of boys was 92,57,890.
The results of the campaigns being run for the education of girls
An official of the syllabus committee constituted by the state school education department said, “The implementation of the Kanyashree project over the years and the sustained campaigns by the state and central governments have contributed to the success of girls’ education in rural areas.” He also said that the importance of education of girls by families at the social level in Bengal and campaigns against child marriage have helped in achieving this achievement.
Dropout rate of girls from schools is less than that of boys
The study conducted during the pre-Covid-19 period also revealed that the dropout of boys in schools in West Bengal is 14.1 percent while that of girls is 13.6 percent. The rate of school dropout in the state was nil in the upper primary section, class 5th and class VII, as against the national average of 2.6 per cent. The survey said that the total enrollment in the country from primary to senior secondary level in 2019-20 was more than 25.09 crores, which is more than 26 lakhs as compared to the previous year. The survey also said that, “The enrollment of boys across the country was 13.01 crores, while that of girls was 12.08 crores. at all levels above primary level
Enrollment in the school has increased.
