2 min read

Director Ramesh Sippy paid an emotional tribute to the late actor Dharmendra during a session at the 56th International Film Festival of India on Thursday. The discussion, marking 50 years of Sholay, turned into a heartfelt remembrance of the legendary star who passed away at 89 earlier this week. Sippy described Dharmendra as a magnificent human being and actor whose place can never be filled. Their friendship spanned five decades, beginning with the iconic film Sholay where Dharmendra played Veeru, a role that propelled him to superstardom. The director expressed his grief and shared that he recently met with Dharmendra's sons, Sunny and Bobby. In celebration of the classic film's legacy, a restored 4K version of Sholay will release in theatres across India on December 12.

Sippy's Emotional Words About Dharmendra

When an audience member asked about Dharmendra at the festival session, Ramesh Sippy found it difficult to speak. He called Dharmendra the most wonderful man and one of the finest ever, stating that his place will never be filled by anyone else. While acknowledging that other good actors will emerge, Sippy emphasized there will be no Dharmendra again. He praised the late actor as absolutely magnificent both as a human being and as a performer. The director added that he will miss him greatly and recently messaged and met with Dharmendra's sons, Sunny and Bobby, expressing wishes for the actor's peace in his new home.
