Filmmaker Anil Sharma has expressed sadness over the passing of veteran actor Dharmendra, stating that the planned sequel Apne 2 will now remain an incomplete story. Dharmendra, known for classics like Sholay and Chupke Chupke, died on Monday morning at his Mumbai residence at the age of 89. The original film Apne, released in 2007, was a sports drama that marked the first collaboration of Dharmendra with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. The sequel had been in development for several years, with an official announcement made in 2020. It was intended to feature the original trio along with grandson Karan Deol. Sharma last met Dharmendra a couple of months ago, when the actor blessed him and expressed his desire to create good cinema. The director credits Dharmendra for shaping his career, having worked together on multiple films.

Last Meeting and Unfulfilled Plans for the Sequel
Sharma recalled meeting Dharmendra about two months ago at Bobby Deol's place. The veteran actor, who affectionately called him Chotu, inquired about his upcoming projects. Sharma informed him about plans for an action film with Utkarsh, followed by Apne 2 and Gadar 3. Dharmendra encouraged him to develop a good story and expressed his desire to make quality cinema. He blessed Sharma during that meeting, which became a cherished memory for the filmmaker. The sequel had been announced in 2020 and was set to include grandson Karan Deol alongside Dharmendra, Sunny, and Bobby. The project will now remain incomplete following the actor's death, leaving some regrets despite the fond memories.
