India's hopes at the 53rd International Emmy Awards did not materialise as both nominations from the country went unrewarded. Imtiaz Ali's biographical film Amar Singh Chamkila had earned two nominations but failed to secure a win in either category. The awards ceremony took place on Monday night in New York City. Diljit Dosanjh, who portrayed the legendary Punjabi singer in the film, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor but lost to Spanish actor Oriol Pla. The film itself competed in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category but was defeated by the British drama Lost Boys and Fairies. Despite the setback, Diljit and director Imtiaz Ali represented India on the red carpet, accompanied by Netflix India executives. The Netflix biopic chronicles the life of the iconic Punjabi musician who was tragically killed in the 1980s, with Parineeti Chopra playing his wife Amarjot Kaur.

Both Indian Nominations Fall Short at International Emmys
Amar Singh Chamkila competed against Germany's Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, the United Kingdom's Lost Boys and Fairies, and Chile's Vencer o Morir in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The honour ultimately went to Lost Boys and Fairies, a British television drama focusing on a gay couple's adoption journey. Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh was among four nominees for Best Performance by an Actor, facing David Mitchell for Ludwig, Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude, and Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto. Spanish actor Oriol Pla claimed the trophy for his compelling performance as a recovering drug addict. The Netflix biographical film received widespread praise for its direction, acting, and AR Rahman's music.
