India's hopes at the 53rd International Emmy Awards remained unfulfilled as Imtiaz Ali's biographical film Amar Singh Chamkila failed to secure wins in both categories it was nominated for. The film, based on the life of the legendary Punjabi singer who was murdered in the 1980s, competed in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category but lost to the British drama Lost Boys and Fairies. Lead actor Diljit Dosanjh, who portrayed the titular character, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor but the award went to Spanish actor Oriol Pla for his role in Yo, adicto. The ceremony took place on Monday night in New York City. Diljit and director Imtiaz Ali attended the event, walking the red carpet alongside Netflix India executives. The Netflix film had earned widespread praise for its performances, direction, and AR Rahman's music, with Parineeti Chopra playing Chamkila's wife Amarjot Kaur.

Amar Singh Chamkila competed against Germany's Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, the UK's Lost Boys and Fairies, and Chile's Vencer o Morir in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The award ultimately went to Lost Boys and Fairies, a British television drama focusing on a gay couple's adoption journey. In the acting category, Diljit Dosanjh faced competition from David Mitchell for Ludwig, Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto, and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude. Spanish actor Oriol Pla claimed the Best Performance by an Actor trophy for his compelling depiction of a recovering drug addict. Despite critical acclaim for the film's performances and AR Rahman's soundtrack, India ended the night without any International Emmy victories.
