2 min read

The 53rd International Emmy Awards ceremony concluded on Monday night in New York City without any wins for India. Imtiaz Ali's biographical film Amar Singh Chamkila had entered with two nominations but failed to secure either award. The Netflix film competed in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category but lost to the British drama Lost Boys and Fairies, which tells the story of a gay couple navigating the adoption process. Lead actor Diljit Dosanjh was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for his portrayal of the late Punjabi singer, but the honour went to Oriol Pla from Spain for his role in Yo, adicto. Diljit and director Imtiaz Ali walked the red carpet earlier that evening alongside Netflix India executives, with Diljit greeting photographers with his characteristic namaste gesture. The film had received widespread praise for its performances, direction, and AR Rahman's musical score.

Competition Results and Winners

Amar Singh Chamkila competed against Germany's Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, the UK's Lost Boys and Fairies, and Chile's Vencer o Morir in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The British production Lost Boys and Fairies took home the award. In the acting category, Diljit Dosanjh faced competition from David Mitchell for Ludwig, Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto, and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude. Spanish actor Oriol Pla won the Best Performance by an Actor award for his compelling depiction of a recovering drug addict. The film is the official biopic of the legendary Punjabi singer who was murdered in the 1980s, with Parineeti Chopra playing his wife and musical partner Amarjot Kaur.
