India's hopes at the 53rd International Emmy Awards ended without a win as Imtiaz Ali's biographical film about the Punjabi music legend failed to secure either of its two nominations. The Netflix production had been shortlisted in both the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series and Best Performance by an Actor categories. The ceremony took place in New York City on Monday night, corresponding to Tuesday morning in India. The film faced stiff competition from European and Latin American productions. In the acting category, the Spanish performer took home the trophy for his role as a recovering drug addict. Meanwhile, the TV movie award went to a British drama exploring adoption within a same-sex relationship. The Indian team, including the lead actor and director, attended the red carpet event earlier in the evening alongside Netflix India executives.

Competition Results and Winners at the International Emmys
The biographical film competed against productions from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Chile in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The award was won by Lost Boys and Fairies, a British television drama that tells the story of a gay couple navigating the adoption process. In the Best Performance by an Actor category, the Indian nominee faced competition from David Mitchell for Ludwig, Oriol Pla for Yo, adicto, and Diego Vasquez for One Hundred Years of Solitude. Spanish actor Oriol Pla received the honour for his compelling performance as a person recovering from drug addiction, defeating all other contenders including the Punjabi singer-actor.
