Singer Chinmayi Sripada has approached the Hyderabad police after facing severe online harassment targeting her family and children. The abuse began when her husband, filmmaker Rahul Ravindran, made a statement about the choice to wear mangalsutra during an interview promoting his film Girlfriend. He mentioned that after their marriage, he told Chinmayi it was her decision whether to wear the traditional symbol, questioning why men have no visible sign of marriage while women are expected to. The comments triggered hateful messages on social media platform X. Chinmayi contacted Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, who responded by tagging relevant police departments. Known for her vocal stance against harassment, particularly after raising MeToo allegations against Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu, Chinmayi called the trolls vicious and decided to involve legal authorities this time. She initially defended her husband online before seeking police intervention.

Police Intervention and Response to Social Media Abuse
After trolls targeted her husband and children following Rahul Ravindran's mangalsutra remarks, Chinmayi brought the matter to Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar. He responded by tagging both the Hyderabad Cybercrime and Hyderabad Police Department accounts on X. Chinmayi stated she was advised not to engage with the trolls, as many appeared to have caste or political backing. She described them as vicious and rabid, even worse than those she encountered previously in Tamil Nadu. Despite her history of responding bravely to online harassment, especially after her MeToo case against Vairamuthu, she chose legal intervention this time. She initially defended her husband online, expressing concern for women facing such rage from abusive men, before deciding formal police involvement was necessary.
