Ghoomer Re-Release and Saiyami’s Role Challenges

2 min read

Actress Saiyami Kher, the only Indian actor present at the Indian women's cricket team's World Cup victory celebrations, shared her experiences witnessing the historic win. She described emotional moments with players and their families as they processed the triumph. Saiyami attended the post-match celebrations and spoke with several team members, noting that none had fully absorbed the magnitude of their achievement. Veterans like Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj became overwhelmed with emotion while holding the trophy. The actress found it particularly moving to see a packed stadium with grown men weeping at the Indian women's victory, reflecting how far women's cricket has come. To mark this milestone, the film Ghoomer, starring Saiyami and Abhishek Bachchan, is being re-released on 7 November. The movie tells the story of a cricketer overcoming disability to pursue her passion.

Ghoomer Re-Release and Saiyami's Role Challenges

Ghoomer, originally released in 2023, follows a determined cricketer who overcomes a life-changing disability. Director R Balki approached Saiyami after seeing her play cricket, though she didn't anticipate the difficulty ahead. Her character loses her right hand, requiring her to become a left-hander. She explained that even simple tasks like brushing teeth with the non-dominant hand proved challenging. Saiyami had to retrain everything to authentically portray a person with disability. While the physical demands were significant, she found living the emotional journey of her character even tougher. The film draws inspiration from Hungarian shooter Károly Takács, who won gold medals in 1948 and 1952 Olympics despite losing her hand.
