Kamal Haasan announced the collaboration on Wednesday through social media, sharing pictures with Rajinikanth and a handwritten note. The film will be produced by Kamal's Raaj Kamal Films International and directed by Sundar C, surprising many who expected directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj or Nelson Dilipkumar. This marks Rajinikanth's 173rd film, titled Thalaivar173, and is scheduled for a Pongal 2027 release through Red Giant Movies. The announcement celebrates five decades of friendship between the two superstars, a bond described as inspiring generations of artists and audiences. Kamal's note emphasized their long-standing brotherhood. The news has generated excitement among fans and the film industry, with many celebrating this historic collaboration between two towering forces of Indian cinema.

Sundar C to Helm Historic Collaboration

The film will be directed by Sundar C, a choice that surprised many expecting other prominent directors. Others recalled their past collaboration in Arunachalam and anticipated another blockbuster.
