Upcoming Romance Films Aim to Continue the Winning Streak

2 min read

After the pandemic, Bollywood seemed to shift heavily toward mass action films, with even major stars moving away from romantic stories. However, 2025 has marked a significant revival for the romance genre in Hindi cinema. Earlier hits like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani kept the genre alive, but this year truly brought it back to life. Saiyaara surprised everyone by breaking decades-old box office records despite featuring young actors and no massive star power. Following that, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat crossed the ₹100-crore mark, defying trade expectations. These successes have sent a clear message: audiences are eager for decent romantic films and will show up in theatres. Now, with the year ending, the stage is set for more romance films to prove the genre's lasting appeal and commercial viability in contemporary Bollywood.

Aanand L Rai's Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, is positioned to replicate earlier successes. Scheduled for release on 28 November, the film features music by AR Rahman, which could help it reach wider audiences. Trade expert Taran Adarsh believes the film promises good box office business, calling 2025 the year that belongs to love stories. Industry insiders note that simple, honest storytelling is all romance films need today. Two weeks after Tere Ishk Mein, another romance drama, Mere Raho with Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, will release. Both films hope to benefit from the momentum created by Saiyaara and Deewaniyat's unexpected commercial success this year.
