The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Government of India regarding the detention of Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly in the UAE, bringing hope to his family after 14 months of uncertainty. The court directed authorities to file a status report and appointed a nodal officer to facilitate communication between the detained soldier and his family. Major Jaitly, who served with 3 Para Special Forces, has been held in the UAE since 2016, where he worked with MATITI Group in trading and consultancy. His sister, former actor Celina Jaitly, expressed gratitude through an emotional social media post, urging the Indian government to intervene and ensure his safe return. She highlighted that her brother is a fourth-generation soldier who has dedicated his life to the nation and holds a COAS Commendation for Gallantry. The Centre's counsel confirmed he was arrested in connection with a case and that the Ministry remains in contact with his wife.

Court Orders Government Action and Nodal Officer Appointment

On Monday, the Delhi High Court heard Celina Jaitly's writ petition in open court and issued directives aimed at resolving her brother's situation. The court ordered the Government of India to provide effective legal representation for Major Jaitly regarding his arrest and detention. A nodal officer was appointed to coordinate assistance and facilitate contact between the family and the detained soldier. The court emphasized attempts should be made to enable communication between Celina and her brother. Celina's lawyer welcomed the order, expressing hope it would pave the way for Major Vikrant's return to India. In her petition, Celina stated that despite over a year of detention, the government had provided no basic information about his legal status or welfare, and no verifiable communication had been established.
