Is Thamma a hit or a flop? As Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika film crosses ₹150 — —

2 min read

The horror comedy film Thamma, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has crossed the ₹150-crore mark globally within 13 days of its release. Produced by Maddock Films, the movie opened without competition during Diwali, earning ₹24 crore on its first day domestically. After its first week, it surpassed ₹100 crore in India alone. As of its second Sunday, the film has collected ₹120 crore net (₹144 crore gross) domestically and $2.8 million from overseas markets, bringing its worldwide gross to approximately ₹167 crore. Despite strong numbers, the film carries a production budget exceeding ₹140 crore, with total costs around ₹150 crore including marketing. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma introduces vampire lore to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, with Varun Dhawan in a cameo appearance.

Box Office Performance and Hit Status

Thamma stands as the third-highest-grossing film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, trailing only the two Stree films. However, trade analysts note that the movie requires at least ₹150 crore net earnings to qualify as a clean hit, considering its total landing cost. Currently sitting at ₹120 crore net, it remains about ₹30 crore short of that target. The film earned under ₹12 crore during its second weekend, indicating a slowdown. While Maddock Films has already recovered costs through non-theatrical revenue, making it a commercial success for the studio, box office performance currently categorizes Thamma as an above-average grosser with potential to achieve hit status if momentum continues through the coming days.
