The Delhi High Court has intervened in the case of Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, brother of Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates for over a year. On November 3, Justice Sachin Datta directed the Union of India to ensure effective legal representation for the detained former army officer and asked officials to keep his family informed about his condition. Celina Jaitly, who appeared in person during the hearing, told the court she has not been able to speak to her brother since his alleged detention on September 6, 2024. The court has ordered the Ministry of External Affairs to appoint a nodal officer to coordinate communication between the family and UAE authorities. A detailed status report has been requested before the next hearing scheduled for December 4, 2025.

Court Orders Government Action and Status Report
Justice Sachin Datta issued a notice to the Ministry of External Affairs and instructed officials to appoint a nodal officer who will coordinate communication between the Jaitly family and authorities in the UAE. The court directed that contact should be established between Celina and her brother, as well as with his wife. The petition explained that Major Jaitly, who has been working with a trading and risk-management firm in the UAE since 2016, was taken into custody under unclear circumstances. Celina's legal counsel argued that the prolonged detention without proper legal access or regular communication violates basic human rights and international diplomatic norms. The government must file a detailed status report before the next hearing.
