2 min read

A couple was attacked and injured in a dispute over a government toilet in Samastipur district. The victims, Naresh Thakur (35) and his wife Khushboo Kumari (30), were admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment. The incident took place in Pataili village under Ujiyarpur police station area. Naresh, who works as a labourer in Delhi, had returned home for the Chhath festival. The dispute arose when he used a government toilet built on joint family land, which angered his brother and sister-in-law. The conflict escalated, leading to violence against both Naresh and Khushboo. The family land remains undivided among the four brothers. Khushboo, who lives in the village with their two children, has faced similar assaults before. Despite a written complaint submitted earlier to Ujiyarpur police station, no action was taken. Police are now investigating the matter.

The injured couple reached Sadar Hospital, where they are receiving treatment in the emergency ward under the supervision of Dr. Utkarsh Kumar. Station House Officer Ajit Kumar stated that a Dial 112 police team has been sent to the village for investigation. However, the victims have not yet submitted a written application at the police station. Authorities confirmed that further action will be taken only after receiving a formal complaint. Naresh had previously filed a written complaint regarding earlier violence by his sister-in-law against Khushboo, but no steps were taken at that time. The family dispute centers on undivided land where the shared government toilet stands.
