A legislator from the Rashtriya Janata Dal was attacked during election campaigning in Bihar's Madhepura district. Chandrahas Chopra faced the assault at Ramnagar Bazaar in the Sinheshwar assembly constituency on Monday. The lawmaker shared details of the incident through a live social media broadcast shortly after it occurred. According to his account, a youth allegedly under the influence of intoxicants, identified as Raman Kumar Jha, led approximately a dozen others in the attack while Chopra was addressing voters. Police forces arrived at the scene after being alerted by the legislator. Chopra claimed the attack was a conspiracy orchestrated by political opponents targeting him because of his Dalit background and growing electoral prospects. He credited his security personnel and supporters for preventing a more serious outcome. The legislator announced plans to file a formal police complaint demanding strict action against those responsible.

Attack During Campaign and Police Response

Chandrahas Chopra was conducting election outreach at Ramnagar Bazaar in Sinheshwar when the incident took place. A youth named Raman Kumar Jha, reportedly intoxicated, attacked him along with around a dozen accomplices. The legislator immediately contacted the station in-charge, who arrived promptly with additional police personnel. Chopra stated that the presence of his bodyguards and supporters prevented the situation from escalating further. Station in-charge Raghavendra Kumar confirmed that a thorough investigation would be conducted and strict action would be taken. The lawmaker indicated he would soon register an FIR and demand stringent measures against the accused. He alleged the attack was a planned conspiracy by rivals who targeted him due to his Dalit identity and rising electoral success.
