On 21 Aug 2025, about 200 senior students at Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Bihar, surrounded a professor in the boys' hostel late at night. The professor was on duty to stop ragging after six students were suspended for ragging. The students pressured the professor to revoke the suspensions and verbally abused him for over an hour. The college has a rule banning students from leaving hostels after 10 pm, which the students opposed. Police from Brahmpura station arrived at midnight and patrolled the campus. The principal said an investigation is underway and strict action will be taken against the accused. MIT has assigned three teachers for anti-ragging duty in hostels.
