A traffic policeman, Constable Vipin Kumar, was fatally struck by a speeding Ertiga on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway while managing traffic near the IPEM College exit amid high vehicle density and VIP movement. CCTV footage shows the Ertiga changing lanes erratically before hitting the officer, who was positioned adjacent to an entrance/exit point used for traffic control. Witnesses reported the driver was allegedly intoxicated and driving at speeds between 120 and 130 km/h. The incident has raised concerns about police safety protocols on expressways, with critics questioning the practice of stopping vehicles in fast-moving traffic and suggesting safer methods such as using police vehicles to block lanes. Authorities confirmed the driver was at fault for reckless driving, but discussions continue regarding the adequacy of police training and procedures for traffic management on highways.
