The Kerala Congress has suspended Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil from the party's primary membership following allegations of obscene conduct made by writer Honey Bhaskaran and model Rini Ann George. Despite the suspension, Mamkootathil will continue to serve as a legislator. The move comes amid protests and demands for his resignation from parties including the BJP and CPI, as well as a protest march by the Democratic Youth Federation of India in Palakkad. BJP leader Navya Haridas stated that multiple women and transgender individuals have accused Mamkootathil of sexual harassment, presenting evidence such as chat histories and voice messages. Mamkootathil had earlier resigned as State President of the Youth Congress. Kerala Congress leader VD Satheesan assured a thorough investigation and stated that serious allegations would be met with necessary action after giving Mamkootathil an opportunity to respond.
