Apple is expected to release its first foldable iPhone in 2026, featuring a book-style fold similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold. The device, codenamed V68, will have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen, with a thickness of about 4.5mm when unfolded. It is anticipated to include four cameras, a return of Touch ID instead of Face ID, and no physical SIM slot. Apple plans to use in-cell touch technology to reduce the visible crease on the foldable screen. The phone will incorporate Apple’s new C2 modem chip and is likely to run a customized version of iOS optimized for multitasking and larger displays. Production is expected to ramp up in early 2026 for a possible fall launch. Pricing is projected to start around $1,999, positioning it as an ultra-premium device. Apple is currently testing only black and white color options. The foldable iPhone aims to offer a thinner, refined design and could support Apple Pencil, targeting markets including China where foldables are gaining traction.
