Apple has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Chen Shi, a former sensor system architect on the Apple Watch team, accusing him of stealing trade secrets before joining Chinese smartphone maker Oppo. According to the lawsuit, Shi attended numerous meetings with Apple Watch technical staff and downloaded 63 confidential documents from a protected folder onto a USB drive shortly before leaving Apple. He allegedly communicated with Oppo about collecting proprietary information and searched for ways to erase traces of his activities on his Apple-issued MacBook. Shi, who had access to sensitive health sensor technology and product roadmaps, resigned citing personal and family reasons. Apple claims Oppo encouraged and approved Shi’s plan to gather Apple’s confidential data. Shi now leads a sensing technology team at Oppo. Apple is seeking an injunction, damages, and legal fees. Oppo did not respond to requests for comment due to a full mailbox. (Updated 23 Aug 2025, 04:08 IST; source: link)
