Samsung has launched its Micro RGB TV, a 115-inch display priced at $30,000, featuring a unique micro-scale RGB LED backlight technology that sits between Mini LED and true Micro LED displays. Unlike true Micro LED TVs, it uses a backlight with individually controlled red, green, and blue LEDs under 100 micrometers in size, enabling precise color control and covering 100% of the BT.2020 color space. The TV offers thousands of local dimming zones—about four times more than Samsung’s 115-inch Mini LED QN90F model—enhancing contrast though it lacks self-emissive pixels and cannot achieve the pure blacks of OLED or Micro LED. Samsung’s Micro RGB TV uses AI processing to optimize picture and sound in real time. The display delivers vivid colors and smooth gradients, with minimal light bleed and halo effects observed during demos. Samsung plans a global rollout with various sizes. Other companies like Sony and Hisense are developing similar RGB LED backlight TVs. This technology represents a significant advancement in premium LCD-LED displays, offering an alternative to OLED and Micro LED at a lower price point, though it is not a true Micro LED display.
