On 28 Aug 2025, Ahmad Mulakhil and Mohammad Kabir, both 23, pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to charges related to the abduction and assault of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton on 22 July. Mulakhil denied abducting the child, three counts of rape, and two counts of sexual assault. Kabir denied attempting to take the child, aiding rape, and strangulation. Both men, of no fixed address, used interpreters during the hearing. They were remanded in custody with a further hearing set for 21 Nov and a trial scheduled for 26 Jan 2026, expected to last five days. The case sparked anti-asylum protests in Nuneaton earlier this month, including a far-right rally. Police stated they followed national guidance on handling such cases.
