On 27 July 2025, wildfires spread rapidly in Bursa, a province in northwestern Turkey, forcing over 1,700 people to evacuate and destroying large forest areas. Despite the devastation, a 25-decare nectarine orchard in Karahıdır village remained untouched. Farmer Halil Kiraz said the orchard survived because the soil was moist, there were no dry weeds, and a road surrounded it. The fires, fueled by strong winds and high temperatures, burned nearly 100 hectares in the Gürsu district but were controlled by the fourth and fifth days. Nearby orchards also escaped damage. The wildfires caused two deaths and damaged infrastructure, including roads. Authorities and firefighters worked to contain the blazes amid a heatwave affecting Turkey and parts of Europe.
