Minneapolis School Shooting Kills 2 Children, Injures 17 at Catholic School

A shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning resulted in the deaths of two children, aged 8 and 10, and injuries to 17 others during a worship service marking the first week of school. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, fired dozens of rounds from a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, all legally purchased, before taking his own life. FBI Director Kash Patel described the attack as an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara condemned the shooting as a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and worshippers. The motive remains under investigation, with authorities examining Westman’s background, including a 2020 name change and deleted YouTube videos linked to an interest in mass shooters. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem referred to Westman as a “deranged monster” and noted his transgender status, while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey urged against vilifying any community in response to the tragedy. The investigation continues as officials support the affected community and seek to clarify the shooter’s motives. (Updated 28 Aug 2025, 07:16 IST; source: link)
