Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on August 27, concluding a 16-season career with 187 wickets in 221 matches. The former Chennai Super Kings spinner, who also played for Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Rising Pune Supergiant, is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. After retiring from international cricket in 2024, Ashwin expressed his intention to join foreign leagues, including the Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred in England, SA20, Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and potentially the US-based league where Chennai Super Kings have a franchise. If he plays in the BBL, he would be the first Indian to do so, and in The Hundred, he could become the first Indian male player. Ashwin thanked the IPL, BCCI, and franchisees for their support and looks forward to exploring new opportunities in global cricket leagues. (Updated 28 Aug 2025, 03:12 IST; source: link)
