On 27 Aug 2025, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 38-year-old off-spinner ended a 15-year IPL career with 187 wickets in 221 matches. Ashwin last played for Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season but had a disappointing run, taking only seven wickets in nine games. He thanked all IPL franchises and the BCCI for their support. Ashwin said he will now explore playing in cricket leagues outside India. He played for several IPL teams, including Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. His retirement makes him eligible for overseas leagues like SA20 and ILT20, where Indian players often participate. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is coaching in SA20, which may interest Ashwin if he joins. Ashwin’s move marks a new phase in his cricket career after retiring from international cricket in December 2024. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 13:22 IST; source: link)
