A time capsule buried in 1991 at Great Ormond Street Hospital was opened early. It was made by Diana, Princess of Wales, and two children to show life in the 1990s. The box had a Kylie Minogue CD, a solar calculator, a passport, British coins, tree seeds, a snowflake hologram, a pocket TV, and a photo of Diana. It was meant to stay buried for hundreds of years but was dug up to build a new children’s cancer centre. The hospital said the new centre will help treat childhood cancers better. Some items in the capsule were slightly damaged but mostly in good condition. Diana had chosen the items with the children before her death in 1997. The capsule was sealed when the hospital’s Variety Club building foundation stone was laid. Staff from 1991 helped remove it safely. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 13:15 IST; source: link)
