DR Congo and M23 Rebels Resume Peace Talks in Qatar
Saralnama

The Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebels have restarted peace talks in Doha, Qatar, on 26 Aug 2025. The talks follow renewed fighting in eastern DR Congo's South Kivu region. Both sides had signed a ceasefire in July but missed the August 18 deadline to finalize a peace deal. Qatar shared a draft agreement proposing a three-stage plan, including a joint security force with members from both sides. The talks aim to end the conflict that has displaced many civilians and affected the mineral-rich region. The peace process is fragile, with both parties accusing each other of breaking the ceasefire. Qatar continues to mediate the negotiations to reach a lasting peace.
