Spotify has started rolling out a new messaging feature for users aged 16 and above. This feature lets both free and premium users chat and share music, podcasts, and audiobooks with people they have interacted with on the platform. It will be available on mobile devices in select markets from this week. Spotify had a similar feature before but removed it in 2017 due to low use. Now, with many more users, the company hopes this will increase engagement and help compete with Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube. The company has 696 million monthly active users and aims to reach 1 billion. The messaging feature keeps conversations inside the app and allows users to accept or block chat requests.
