Former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of the Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming SA20 2026 season, marking his first full-fledged coaching role in franchise cricket. The franchise announced the appointment following the departure of former England batter Jonathan Trott, who stepped down after a disappointing 2025 campaign with only two wins in ten matches. Ganguly previously served as team director of Delhi Capitals and was appointed JSW’s Director of Cricket in 2024, overseeing franchises including Delhi and Pretoria Capitals. He will lead the team’s preparations and strategy, including the SA20 player auction scheduled for September 9. Ganguly has held various administrative roles post-retirement, including president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Pretoria Capitals expressed gratitude to Trott for his leadership and dedication. Ganguly’s appointment aligns with JSW’s intent to strengthen its SA20 project and rebuild the Capitals’ squad under his guidance. (Updated 24 Aug 2025, 23:49 IST; source: link)
