Bhopal’s busiest intersections, including DIG Bungalow Square, Shahpura, Jehangirabad Square, and Bagsewaniya Thana Intersection, have become dangerous due to massive potholes up to one foot deep and open drains reaching five feet. These roads, used daily by over 100,000 vehicles including two-wheelers, buses, and ambulances, have seen little permanent repair despite frequent complaints and public outcry. The situation worsens after dark when potholes become nearly invisible, causing frequent accidents, especially involving bikes. These routes are regularly used by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), District Administration, and Traffic Police, yet no significant safety measures have been implemented. BMC officials reported filling over 2,000 potholes last month, but residents say only temporary patchwork was done, much of which was washed away by recent rains, leaving deeper craters. BMC’s Superintendent Engineer Subodh Jain and PWD officials have assured that pothole repairs are ongoing and will continue until resolved. (Updated 24 Aug 2025, 23:35 IST; source: link)
