Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has instructed DISCOMs to achieve the state government’s target of solarising 2.93 lakh agriculture pump sets and 1,156 feeders with a total capacity of 1,162.8 MW under the PM-KUSUM scheme. The scheme involves establishing solar plants over 5,842 acres of identified land. In a virtual review meeting with officials from APTRANSCO, DISCOMs, NREDCAP, and plant developers, Vijayanand emphasized expediting the handover of 1,700 acres of pending land to NREDCAP and urged signing power purchase and land lease agreements promptly to avoid project delays. He directed developers to complete projects within 12 months and requested monthly progress reviews to address approval and clearance issues. Officials reported that tenders and letters of intent have been issued for a combined capacity of over 1,163 MW covering more than 2.9 lakh pump sets across APEPDCL, APCPDCL, APSPDCL, and Kuppam RESCO. The solarisation aims to reduce government subsidy burdens, ensure reliable daytime power supply to farmers, and promote renewable energy in Andhra Pradesh.
