US President Donald Trump has appointed Sergio Gor, currently director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, as the next US ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs. Gor, a close aide and longtime Trump loyalist, will succeed Eric Garcetti after Senate confirmation. Since Garcetti’s departure in January 2025, the US Embassy in India has been led by interim Charge d’Affaires Jorgan K Andrews. Gor’s appointment comes amid complex US-India relations, including recent tariff disputes.
