The Karnataka High Court dismissed an appeal by K.M. Gangadhar challenging his compulsory retirement as a civil judge in 2012. The court found no illegality in the retirement order, which followed an inquiry into allegations that Gangadhar interfered in a criminal investigation and threatened police officials in Bengaluru. The inquiry established that Gangadhar had abused and threatened police personnel over a phone call lasting 10 to 15 minutes in August 2007. The division bench, led by Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Joshi, upheld the earlier single judge verdict dismissing Gangadhar's petition. The court stated that the procedure followed was proper and the punishment was not disproportionate. Gangadhar had been serving as a civil judge (senior division) and XIII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at the time of the incident. The complaint was lodged by a woman named Indumathi, alleging interference in a police investigation concerning her complaint against another individual. The High Court's decision was issued on August 19, 2025. (Updated 22 Aug 2025, 23:14 IST; source: link)
