Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has dismissed two government employees, Khursheed Ahmad Rather, a teacher, and Siyad Ahmad Khan from the Sheep Husbandry Department, for alleged involvement in terrorist activities including arms smuggling and links with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group. Both individuals are residents of Kupwara district’s border areas, Karnah and Keran. Rather was accused of acting as a conduit for LeT operations and smuggling weapons to further the terrorist network’s objectives, while Khan, currently jailed since December 2024, is listed as a terrorist associate and underground worker of LeT. The dismissals were carried out under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, allowing termination without inquiry in cases of anti-national activities. This action is part of an intensified crackdown by the Jammu and Kashmir administration targeting government employees linked to terrorism, with over 70 such dismissals since 2019. The move reflects ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist infrastructure in the region and maintain national security. (Updated 22 Aug 2025, 18:31 IST; source: link)
