Heavy rainfall on Friday caused severe waterlogging in several areas of Sawai Madhopur district, Rajasthan, disrupting normal life and affecting commuters, including at the railway station. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Jaipur issued a red alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms in Sawai Madhopur until 12 pm, followed by a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls for the next four days. The India Meteorological Department reported a strengthening monsoon from August 14 due to low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal moving west-northwest, resulting in active monsoon conditions over central and southern India. During the week, these regions received normal to above-normal rainfall, with India overall receiving 22 percent more rainfall than usual. The monsoon trough shifted south of its normal position, contributing to the active monsoon conditions across the country. (Updated 22 Aug 2025, 11:01 IST; source: link)
