A Ukrainian drone flew over 1,000 kilometers into Russian territory to strike an ammunition depot, demonstrating advances in Ukraine’s defense technology amid ongoing conflict with Russia. The drone, developed by the private company Fire Point, can travel up to 1,600 kilometers carrying a 60 kg explosive payload. Fire Point, founded by a group with backgrounds in architecture, gaming, and construction, has rapidly increased production from 30 drones a month to nearly 100 daily. These FP-1 drones are responsible for 60% of Ukraine’s deep strikes on Russian targets such as oil depots and weapons factories. Ukraine’s limited access to Western long-range weapons has driven significant investment—about USD 10 billion annually—in domestic arms production and eased regulations to accelerate military technology development. Fire Point also revealed a new cruise missile with a 3,000-kilometer range, which Ukrainian President Zelenskyy aims to mass-produce by year-end. Ukrainian officials emphasize self-reliance in defense amid cautious peace talks, with Fire Point’s head of production expressing preparation for a potentially larger conflict. The drone strike followed a Russian glide bomb attack on the same region, highlighting the ongoing hostilities and Ukraine’s evolving military capabilities.
