Myanmar Army Recaptures Strategic City Demoso After Two Years
Saralnama

Myanmar's military recaptured the strategic town of Demoso in Kayah State after nearly two years of control by resistance forces, including the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force. The army regained control following a 16-day operation involving ground assaults and airstrikes, seizing weapons and inflicting casualties on resistance fighters. Demoso, located about 110 kilometers east of Naypyitaw, has been a key battleground since the military coup in February 2021. The recapture is part of intensified military efforts ahead of planned elections on December 28, 2025. The military's advance reflects ongoing conflict dynamics in Myanmar's civil war, with resistance groups holding significant territory since the coup. The operation was reported by state media with images of soldiers in key town locations, highlighting the military's regained presence in the region. (Updated 21 Aug 2025, 00:41 IST; source: link)
