Uttarakhand: Every Land to Get Unique ID, Full Land Record Details to Be Made Available – Revenue Department Prepares for Implementation

Dehradun, September 2024: In a groundbreaking move to streamline land management and curb illegal land encroachments, the Uttarakhand government is set to introduce a special Unique ID for every plot of land in the state. The Revenue Department is actively preparing to roll out this initiative, which will provide a complete digital record, or “horoscope,” of each piece of land.

The Unique ID Initiative

The initiative aims to assign a unique identification number to every plot of land across Uttarakhand. This Unique ID will be a key feature in ensuring transparency in land ownership, simplifying property transactions, and preventing fraudulent activities related to land. The ID will be linked to a comprehensive digital record of the land, detailing ownership history, plot size, boundaries, and any legal disputes or encumbrances.

Benefits of the Unique ID System

  1. Complete Land Record: Landowners and potential buyers will have access to a detailed record of the land’s history, legal status, and any disputes, ensuring informed decision-making and reducing the risk of fraud.
  2. Prevention of Encroachment: With a digital record linked to the Unique ID, unauthorized land use and encroachment will be easier to detect and prevent. The government will have a better grip on monitoring and managing public and private lands.
  3. Simplification of Transactions: Property transactions will become more streamlined as the Unique ID will provide clear and accurate land information, making it easier to buy, sell, or transfer land ownership. Legal disputes related to unclear ownership will also decrease.
  4. Boost to E-Governance: The introduction of the Unique ID system is part of a larger e-governance initiative by the Uttarakhand government. It will integrate land records with other government services, enabling easier access to information for citizens, landowners, and officials.

Revenue Department’s Preparations

The Revenue Department is working round the clock to prepare for the launch of this initiative. Land surveys are being conducted to accurately map and document all plots in both rural and urban areas. Digitalization of land records is also underway, and special teams have been deployed to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.

Once implemented, the system will function through an online portal, where landowners can log in and view the complete “horoscope” of their land. The data will include ownership details, past transactions, encumbrances, and even environmental data like the plot’s susceptibility to natural disasters.

Future Implications

This Unique ID system is expected to revolutionize the way land is managed and owned in Uttarakhand. With better transparency and access to data, it will reduce the burden on the legal system by minimizing land disputes. Moreover, the integration of digital land records with the Unique ID will play a crucial role in modernizing the state’s property management infrastructure.
