Senior Leaders Exit Party Over Nepotism Charges

2 min read

The Rashtriya Lok Morcha, a Bihar ally of the BJP, is facing internal turmoil after seven senior leaders resigned from the party. The leaders have accused party chief Upendra Kushwaha of promoting dynastic politics by appointing his son, Deepak Prakash, as a minister despite him being neither an MLA nor an MLC. The RLM had won four of the six seats it contested in the recent Bihar Assembly elections as part of the NDA alliance and received one ministerial position in the state government. The resignations include key figures such as the state president and multiple general secretaries. The dissenting leaders have criticized Kushwaha for abandoning socialist values and prioritizing family advancement over party workers. Upendra Kushwaha currently serves as a Rajya Sabha MP, while his wife Snehlata Kushwaha represents Sasaram as an MLA.

Among those who resigned are Jitendra Nath, who served as the party's number two, along with state president Mahendra Kushwaha, state general secretary Rahul Kumar, and four other senior officials. Jitendra Nath revealed he had worked with Upendra Kushwaha for nine years and believed the leader had become desperate to promote his family after the party failed to win any seats in the 2020 Assembly polls. Rahul Kumar described the situation as a "one-sided affair" and stated that Upendra Kushwaha had "fallen into the trap of dynastic politics." The leaders emphasized that ordinary workers now have no place in the RLM under the current leadership structure.
