2 min read

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things premiered on Netflix on November 27, split into two volumes. Volume 1 consists of four episodes, while Volume 2, releasing on Christmas, will have three more. The finale is scheduled for New Year's Eve. Set three days before the fourth anniversary of Will's disappearance on November 3, 1987, the new season shows Vecna continuing to pose a serious threat to Hawkins. A key storyline involves young Holly Wheeler, who tells her brother Mike about her imaginary friend called Mr Whatsit. Episode 2 reveals that this friend is actually Vecna in his human form as Henry Creel. The villain's sinister plan includes kidnapping multiple children from Hawkins and taking them to a realm modeled after his psyche and childhood home.

Vecna's Dark Intentions and Holly's Connection

Holly Wheeler, played by Nell Fisher, mentions to Mike that she has befriended someone she calls Mr Whatsit, a reference to the cosmic guardian from the 1962 novel A Wrinkle in Time. She believes this friend will protect her from the monsters threatening Hawkins. However, the ending of Episode 2 exposes Mr Whatsit as Vecna's human form, Henry Creel, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower. Vecna plans to kidnap several Hawkins children, including Holly, and bring them into a realm reflecting his disturbed mind and childhood memories. By Episode 3, Holly discovers that Max, played by Sadie Sink, has been trapped in Vecna's mindscape since the Season 4 finale attack.
