The latest season of Stranger Things introduces a mysterious character called Mr Whatsit, who initially appears to be the imaginary friend of young Holly Wheeler. The season begins three days before the fourth anniversary of Will's disappearance on November 3, 1987. Holly tells her brother Mike about this friend, claiming Mr Whatsit has promised to protect her from the monsters threatening Hawkins. The name references Mrs Whatsit from the 1962 fantasy novel A Wrinkle in Time. However, the ending of Episode 2 reveals a shocking truth: Mr Whatsit is actually Vecna in his human form as Henry Creel. Meanwhile, Vecna continues plotting his next move against Hawkins while remaining a dangerous threat. The season is split into two volumes, with Volume 1 containing four episodes and Volume 2 scheduled to release on Christmas with three episodes. The finale drops on New Year's Eve.
Vecna's Dark Intentions for Hawkins Children
Vecna's plans extend beyond Holly Wheeler. He aims to kidnap multiple children from Hawkins and transport them to a realm reflecting his psyche and childhood home. Will discovers his visions allow him to see through the eyes of whatever being Vecna targets via the Upside Down hive mind. The group creates a plan to attach a tracker to a Demogorgon sent after young Derek Turnbow, hoping to follow the creature and locate Holly. At the end of Episode 3, Holly discovers that Max has been trapped psychically in Vecna's mindscape since his attack in the Season 4 finale. Jamie Campbell Bower and Raphael Luce portray Vecna, while Nell Fisher plays Holly Wheeler.
