India's hopes at the 53rd International Emmy Awards ended without a win as Imtiaz Ali's Amar Singh Chamkila lost in both categories it was nominated for. The Netflix biopic, based on the life of the legendary Punjabi singer who was murdered in the 1980s, competed in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category but the award went to the British drama Lost Boys and Fairies. Lead actor Diljit Dosanjh, who portrayed the titular character, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor but lost to Spanish actor Oriol Pla for his role in Yo, adicto. The awards ceremony took place on Monday night in New York City. Diljit and director Imtiaz Ali walked the red carpet earlier that evening, accompanied by Netflix India executives. The film had received widespread praise for its performances, direction, and AR Rahman's music.
