The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a feasibility study to create a new district from parts of Aligarh and Bulandshahr districts. The proposal follows a demand by Rajveer Singh, son of former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who has asked for a district including the Atrauli area—the birthplace of his father. District Magistrates of Aligarh and Bulandshahr have been directed to survey three blocks: Atrauli and Gangiri from Aligarh, and Dibai from Bulandshahr. A similar proposal was considered during Kalyan Singh's tenure as chief minister between 1991-1992 and 1997-1999 but did not materialize. Rajveer Singh has also requested the new district be named "Kalyan Singh Nagar". With Assembly elections scheduled for 2027, the move is viewed through both administrative and political lenses, given Kalyan Singh's significant influence among the Lodh community across Uttar Pradesh.

Survey and Political Significance of the Proposal
Officials from the State Revenue Department confirmed that the exercise is at a preliminary stage. Aligarh District Magistrate Sanjeev Ranjan stated that the survey will evaluate the demand based on established criteria for new district formation. Rajveer Singh, a BJP leader and former Etah MP, emphasized that the decision should not be seen as political but as beneficial for locals, since Atrauli lies at the intersection of three districts. However, analysts note the political importance, as Kalyan Singh belonged to the influential Lodh community, which holds considerable strength in nearly 70 Assembly seats across western UP and Bundelkhand. His grandson, Sandeep Singh, currently serves as a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government.
