Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad's daughter, Rohini Acharya, announced on Saturday that she is leaving politics and cutting ties with her family. The announcement came a day after the RJD-led alliance faced a major defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, with the party's seats dropping sharply. Acharya, a doctor who largely stayed away from active politics, made the statement on social media, mentioning two names, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, though she did not clarify their exact remarks. Her decision highlights growing tensions within the RJD's leadership family. She had previously unfollowed her father and brother Tejashwi Yadav on social media and criticized the rising influence of certain party members. Her departure from politics follows months of visible discord, including disputes over candidate selection and internal party dynamics.

Family Rifts and Election Defeat Trigger Exit
Rohini Acharya's decision to quit politics came amid deepening rifts within the Lalu family, which became more visible in recent months. She had unfollowed both Lalu and Tejashwi on social media last month, signaling internal conflict. Sources suggest she was unhappy over the expulsion of her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the RJD in May, though she publicly supported Tejashwi during the campaign. Despite having no plans to contest Assembly seats, Acharya reportedly wanted a say in selecting candidates for Saran parliamentary constituency, where she lost in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy by over 13,600 votes. Her ideas were allegedly rejected by Tejashwi and his close aide Sanjay Yadav, leaving Lalu unwilling to intervene.
