A Class 6 student from a private school in Maharashtra's Palghar district died nearly a week after allegedly being punished with sit-ups for arriving late. Anshika Gaud, who attended the school in Sativali, Vasai area, passed away in a Mumbai hospital on Friday night. Her mother claims the girl died due to inhuman punishment given by a teacher who forced her to perform sit-ups while wearing her school bag. According to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members, Anshika and four classmates were made to do 100 sit-ups each on November 8 for late arrival. The student reportedly had pre-existing health problems. Following the incident, authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of death. No police complaint has been filed yet. The incident has raised serious concerns about corporal punishment in schools.

Details of the Incident and Investigation

On November 8, Anshika and four other students were allegedly punished for reaching school late. The teacher made them perform 100 sit-ups with their school bags on their backs. Anshika's mother stated her daughter experienced severe pain in her neck and back after the punishment and could not get up. When confronted, the teacher justified the action by saying parents complain about lack of teaching despite paying fees. Block Education Officer Pandurang Galange confirmed that an inquiry is underway to reveal the exact cause of death. A school teacher questioned whether the punishment directly caused the death. No police complaint has been registered so far, officials said.
