BJP’s Electoral Dominance Across Indian States

2 min read

The ruling NDA alliance achieved a sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, securing 202 out of 243 seats and reducing the Opposition Mahagathbandhan to only 35 seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85 and LJP(RV) with 19. The Opposition's lead party RJD collapsed to 25 seats, while Congress won merely 6. This triumph extends a pattern of dominance the BJP and its alliances have demonstrated across multiple Indian states in recent years. From Maharashtra's landslide to Odisha's historic breakthrough, the party has systematically weakened opposition forces. States like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat have witnessed similar outcomes, with the BJP either winning comfortably alone or through strategic coalitions. These consecutive electoral victories mark a significant shift in India's political landscape, establishing the BJP's formidable presence nationwide.

BJP's Electoral Dominance Across Indian States

Beyond Bihar, the BJP has registered major victories in several states. In Maharashtra's November 2024 Assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance won 232 of 288 seats, with BJP alone securing 132. The Opposition MVA managed only 46 seats. In Odisha 2024, BJP won 78 of 147 Assembly seats, ending Naveen Patnaik's five-term rule, and swept 20 of 21 Lok Sabha seats. Andhra Pradesh saw the NDA alliance capture 164 of 175 Assembly seats and 21 of 25 Lok Sabha seats in simultaneous 2024 elections. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP won 163 of 230 Assembly seats in November 2023, then swept all 29 Lok Sabha seats in 2024. Gujarat witnessed BJP's record 156 of 182 Assembly seats in December 2022, followed by 24 of 25 Lok Sabha seats in 2024.
