The Bihar Assembly election results show Muslim representation falling to its lowest level since 1990, with only 10 Muslim MLAs likely to enter the House. This marks a significant drop despite Muslims comprising 17.7% of Bihar's population according to the 2022-23 state caste survey. Both the ruling NDA and opposition Mahagathbandhan fielded fewer Muslim candidates than in 2020. The AIMIM emerged strongest among Muslim-focused parties, retaining all five seats in Seemanchal region after being excluded from the Mahagathbandhan alliance. The RJD managed two wins, Congress secured two seats, and JD(U) won one. This represents a steep decline from previous elections when Muslim representation ranged between 19 and 24 MLAs. The 2025 Assembly will see Muslim lawmakers constitute just over 4% of the House.

Muslim Representation Drops to Historic Low
The incoming Bihar Assembly will have approximately 10 Muslim MLAs, the lowest count in eight consecutive elections since 1990. In contrast, 2015 saw 24 Muslim legislators (9.87% representation), while 2010 had 19 members (7.81%). The 2020 Assembly had 19 Muslim MLAs from various parties. This decline occurred despite Muslims making up 17.7% of the state's population. Both major alliances fielded fewer Muslim candidates compared to previous elections. AIMIM won five seats in Seemanchal region, retaining its 2020 strongholds after party chief Asaduddin Owaisi was denied entry into the Mahagathbandhan. RJD's Asif Ahmad won from Bisfi, while Osama Sahab, son of Bahubali Shahabuddin, captured Raghunathpur—the family's first electoral victory in 21 years.
