Quiet Night at Party Headquarters Before Counting Day

2 min read

Just hours before counting began for the Bihar Assembly elections, the atmosphere outside the major party offices in Patna remained surprisingly quiet and calm. The offices of BJP, JD(U), and RJD, all located within a few hundred metres of each other on Beerchand Patel Path, showed little activity despite a month of intense campaigning. Earlier in the day, tensions had flared when RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav issued a statement warning against any improper or unconstitutional activity during counting. The BJP responded by claiming the Opposition's statements reflected despair as the NDA was confident of returning to power. By late evening, however, silence had descended over all three party headquarters. Workers prepared tents at some locations, while others remained locked and deserted, creating a stark contrast to the heated political exchanges earlier.

Quiet Night at Party Headquarters Before Counting Day

The BJP office stood almost empty by 8:45 pm, with freshly painted orange gates still drying. A security guard from Sitamarhi, Upendra Kumar, shared his hopes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would announce benefits for farmers. He acknowledged the government's initiatives like higher pensions and cash assistance for women entrepreneurs but felt farmers were overlooked. Meanwhile, the RJD office remained completely locked with no guard present, while the JD(U) office showed signs of activity. Workers were busy setting up a tent by 9:30 pm, confident about forming the government. Passersby exchanged political banter, with one joking that sweets would be distributed in the morning.
